Basic Safety & Security Courses

Theses courses are open for:

Persons who are aged not less than sixteen years old on the date of commencement of the course;

Candidates should have complete Secondary 5 (Year 10) level of Education Service Personnel who should submit a letter of discharge from service;

 

OR

 

Persons who are completed an approved training programme as a cadet or rating;

Participants shall be medically fit and should undergo a medical check-up by a SMSA approved medical practitioner and submit a medical report accordingly.

1. Proficiency Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting

This course is part of the mandatory basic safety training for al seafarers.

Under the STCW 2010 requirements for training and certificate. This is a practical 15 hours course involving use of breathing apparatus, hoses, nozzles and extinguishers.

2. Proficiency in Ship Security Awareness

Under the STCW 2010 requirements for training and certification, this course must  be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships/yachts which are required to comply with ISPS code.

on completing this straining, a candidate will be able to contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness, recognize security threats and understand the need for, and methods of, maintaining security awareness and vigilance.

3. Proficiency Personal Safety & Social Responsibility

This eighteen hour class room-based course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for crew.

It offers basic induction training in safety procedures and accident prevention on board. it familiarizes new entrants with the employment conditions and working environment of yachts and merchant ships.

4. Proficiency Elementary First Aid

This course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers.

It deals with the actions to be taken by individuals to protect themselves and others in emergency situations and includes practical training in the use of life-jackets and inflatable life raft in training the sea.
