The Department of Marine Engineering is responsible for conducting Marine Engineering and related programs for on-going and prospective seafarers. While the programs are designed to the STCW78 code as subsequently amended, the courses are approved by Seychelles Maritime Safety Administration(SMSA). They are also Seychelles Qualification Authority ( SQA) accredited in its own merit..
The training for the Marine Engineering career at SMA includes lectures, practical demonstrations, and simulator experience..
The career path of a Marine Engineer begins with the elementary programme of Advance Certification in Marine Mechanics that enable people to develop themselves to reach the maximum knowledge and ability in such a career path with the upgrading programs such as Engine Watch Rating, Mechanics A&B( Near Coastal) , and Watch keeper respectively .
There are also the Advance Certification Course of Marine Mechanic and the Upgrading programmes. Whilst the Upgrading begins with the Engine Watch Rating, Mechanics A&B( Near Coastal) , and Watch keeper respectively .
The top end of the programmes should develop a person to become a Chief Engineer on an ocean-going vessel with an engine capacity over 3000 KW.
