The Safety and Survival Department conducts 15 short courses and are divided into 3 categories.


Category 1 – Basic Safety Training and Safety Familiarization

The above training consists of 4 units:

  • Personal Survival Technique
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
  • Elementary First Aid
  • Basic Fire Fighting


Before joining a ship and being assigned to any shipboard duties, every seafarer employed on a ship must receive approved basic sea safety training as set out in STCW Regulation A-VI/1 and table A-VI/1-1, A-VI/1-2, A/1-3, and A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code.


Category 2 – Supplementary Courses

The above courses consist of 5 units.

All seafarers applying for a certificate of competency, in the Deck or Engine department must successfully completed the following short-courses before the Administration issue the certificate of competency.

  • Proficiency in Survival Craft (Officers only)
  • Proficiency in Medical First Aid (Officers only)
  • Advanced Fire Fighting (Officers only)
  • Security Awareness (Those who are not performing part of Security duties)
  • Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (All Officers and ratings)
  • Ship Security Officer (Master and Ships Designated Security Officer)
  • Global Maritime Distress Safety System (Deck Officers only)


Category 3 – Specialized Courses

The following specialized courses are compulsory for seafarers serving on Oil, Gas, Chemical Tankers and passenger vessels.

  • Oil and Chemical Tanker Familiarization
  • Crowd Control (Passenger vessels)
