- Scope
This course covers the mandatory requirements for the issue of a “Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats” as specified in Regulation VI/2 Para.1, Section A-VI/2, Para.1-6, Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW 1978 as amended.
- Learning Objective
On successful completion of this course, participants will acquire the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to be able to carry out the following duties, before, during and after abandoning the ship.
- Maintenance of Life Saving Appliances onboard
- Take charge of Survival Craft or Rescue Boat during and after launch
- Operate survival craft engines
- Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
- Use locating devices, communication equipment and signalling apparatus including pyrotechnics
- Give First Aid to survivors
- Purpose
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to perform their relevant duties on the ship in an abandon ship situation.
1.4 COURSE Duration
Total Duration = 30 hrs
1.5 Entry Standards / LeArner status
Participants for this course shall:
- Be not less than 18 years at the time of commencement of the training programme
- Have a valid medical certificate issued in accordance with provisions of STCW Reg. 1/9 and Section A-1/9.
iii. Have approved sea going service of not less than 12 months or have attended an approved pre-sea training course and have approved sea-going service of not less than 06 months
- Have followed a Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques Course
Participants should also sign a health declaration before commencing the practical exercise. If there is any doubt regarding a participant’s fitness for the practical exercise, such participant will be requested to undergo a medical check-up by an accepted medical practitioner and submit a clear medical report before accepting for the practical training.
